Day Twenty-Four- Journal

Watching

Here’s where prayer takes some major effort. Watching is the part of prayer that we ask God to make us attentive and alert to the strategies of the enemy. You think that we would be praying this all the time. It’s here that we listen to God as he points out the way that the enemy is going to try to trip us up.

A good plan here is to review your day. Do you have plans to hang out with your boyfriend or girlfriend? Do you have a big test that is stressing you out? Is your family getting on your last nerve? Do you hate one of your teachers? Are there things in your life that can be a distraction from your time alone with God? Look at all of the places that the enemy could use to come between your relationship with God.

Watching is also the time where we ask God to give us wisdom in any decision that we have to make. Sometimes there are major decisions that we just don’t know what to do. Take that decision to God. Ask that he guide you in making the right one. Sometimes God speaks in dreams or visions. If you’ve had any weird dreams lately, ask God during this time if they have any significance. Many times they do and other times it’s just pizza. In this part of prayer, you might even want to picture yourself putting on the Armor of God and pray through the parts.

Ephesians 6:10-18 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”
