Matthew 6:13 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Martin Luther is reported to have said that he went to bed with the fifth petition of the Lord’s Prayer, and woke up with the sixth. It makes sense. We go to bed reviewing the day and realize we need to pray the fifth petition, “forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors.” We wake up previewing the day, and realize we need to pray the sixth petition, “lead us not into temptation,…read more
Waiting Waiting? No one likes waiting. I don’t like waiting in grocery store lines or waiting at traffic lights. I stink at waiting. So what is waiting in prayer? Waiting on the Lord is basically the silent surrendering of the soul to God. “Waiting upon God requires our entire being. It is not drifting into daydreaming, but is rather an exercise that demands our keenest attention, our most alert frame of mind and all of our soul’s attention to the Heavenly Voice”- John Bisagno. Praise In the last half of the Prayer Experiment Journal, I want to teach you some of the stages of prayer. When we break it up into stages, we are able to be more consistent with our attention and our effectiveness. There are twelve stages. Spending 1-2 minutes in each enables you to have a 12-24 minute, attentive prayer. Spending up to 5 minutes in each stage will give you a solid hour! I bet you never thought that you could pray for an entire hour. The first stage is…read more
Matthew 6:12: “Forgive us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors.” I learned the longest word that I could possibly pronounce in 5th grade. It was “antidisestablishmentarianism.” What’s crazy is that it didn’t get underlined as a misspelled word in Microsoft Word just now! I googled (googled was underlined) the “longest word” and it came up as “pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis” which means a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, causing inflammation in the lungs. I hope that I never get that for several reasons. In…read more
Lies “Every person that calls themselves a Christian, that I know, is a hypocrite.” “All the church wants is money. They don’t care about anything else.” “I tried the Jesus thing. It’s not for me.” “I’m going to become a Christian as soon as I get some things straight.” “God loves everyone. He would never send anyone to hell.” “There are many ways to God. Christianity is just one of them.” “There is no God.” I’m sure that you’ve heard them. I’ve heard them. The enemy’s greatest weapon is a…read more
